Guess I rate these two  even higher than McCartney and Stevie Wonder --- though it is probably pointless to argue who is best  .  All of these together   largely define Pop music over the second half of the last century .
My affection stems from meeting Miss Dionne Warwick from the beginning of her career and falling in love with her interpretations of a series of magical songs . Their creative output ( Burt and Hal) over the period 1960 for the next 25 years was quite astonishing and ,  like Gershwin  , their catalogue of numbers surpasses short term fads and will live forever .
You may be surprised at how many of their numbers you already know because most songs are defined by the singer and not the writers . If you then go on to dig deep into their library , you will be spell bound .

Bacharach & David to receive Gershwin Prize

Legendary songwriters Burt Bacharach and Hal David are to be honoured with the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song during an all-star tribute concert in Washington, D.C. next spring.
The award is the fourth Library of Congress officials have handed out and composer Bacharach and lyricist David are the first songwriting team to be honoured.
Bacharach says, "It's a great honour to receive this award... It doesn't get any better than this."
Past recipients of the Gershwin Prize are Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney.
The announcement comes a day after David received word he would be honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next month.
